Project Highlights: Panel System: Architectural Precast Project Size: 34,700 total square feet consisting of 128 panels
Board Form Liner for both exterior and interior surfaces. Rigid Board Insulation cast into panel as a “Sandwich Panel”. Exposed pre weld panel connections to Structural Steel.
"Design Build" means more design options, while meeting the project budget.
The 1212 Bordeaux Office precast design is a "first of its kind" for Willis Construction. Prior to completing the contract documents, the Architect and Willis Construction met to clearly understand the designer's intent. Through the "Design Build" process, Willis Construction was able to evaluate solutions to achieve the final aesthetics, and to do so within the owner's budget. The designer requested some very unique design ideas that are not common for Architectural Precast cladding. Unlike a typical project that shows the beauty of Architectural Precast on its exterior skin, the designer wanted to bring that finish inside as well. And not the typical light or heavy sandblasted finishes you see with Architectural Precast. The designer chose a board form liner that was used to simulate a wood finish. This meant applying the form liner to the front and back of the panel during the pour process. With precast providing the exterior and interior finishes, it was necessary for the precast panels to also provide the building's insulation. This was achieved by casting all panels with rigid insulation in the middle of each of the panels.
Another unique design request was to leave the interior structural steel and the panel connections to the structural steel exposed to view from the inside. It was important to the designer to leave the connections and structural steel as close as possible to their final construction state when completed. This included any markings or labeling used during the construction process. Each connection assembly including the welds were slightly cleaned of any loose debris, but for the most part, were left in their final state.
Willis Construction has been providing Architectural Precast Concrete building panels and products for the construction industry since 1979. Willis Construction is dedicated to providing Owners, Architects, and General Contractors with the design and engineering expertise necessary to meet the building challenges of today and the future. The quality, durability, and long life of Architectural Precast Concrete, Thinshell, and GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) systems provide a wide range of design options for virtually every type of building. * PCI Certification confirms that a manufacturing plant has an ongoing quality assurance system in place. PCI Certification requires that the plant must consistently demonstrate their commitment to quality principles and procedures. A 120 point audit examines all aspects of plant operation including engineering practices and management commitment.
